19 - Week 3 3ieme: Mauvais jusqu'à l'os - Geneva
Wednesday, March 12
Boy, it felt good to sleep in today, all the way to 7AM 😂
It was a good day at work with a lot of worthwhile discussion: getting an appreciation for what it takes to set up lab equipment, having a coffee with the guys running the pilot plant, and finishing the day with a team dinner with the process engineers.
For dinner, I'd been asked a few weeks ago about what kind of cuisine I wanted, to which I'd replied "Swiss". Boy, did we choose an interesting restaurant: the cuisine was Peruvian/Swiss with a Harley Davidson theme. I know, I know: it's a lot to take in but it's all true - their specialities were lomo saltado and ceviche, the place was decorated floor to celing with American road signs and motorcycle paraphernalia, and the rösti was costeau and sublime. It was a lot of fun getting everyone together for a meal and chatting; they had some interesting stories about the 2023 company Xmas party, such good stories that the 2024 Xmas party didn't feature booze 😂
Le rösti "Sturgis", all the dishes were named after biker related terms. The waiter corrected my pronunciation of Sturgis (Stur-gis instead of Stur-jis); as an American who's never been, maybe I need to review how this little Dakotan town is pronounced. The dish is pretty far from a Dakotan motorcycle rally: it features a Vaudois sausage, leek-cream sauce, and a hefty portion of pan-fried shredded potatoes.
For extra measure, this is how you know it's a biker themed place...
